Samsung gives the extreme fighting club a technology spin

The Extreme Fighting Championships (EFC) is a sports phenomenon that showcases 120 of the world’s toughest mixed martial arts (MMA) athletes as they battle it out – with one goal in mind – to see who is the best.

EFC has continued its growth since its commencement, from a local MMA promotion to one of the world leaders, reaching over 600 million homes in 110 countries around the world daily via television and livestreaming platforms such as EFC worldwide TV. Samsung has signed a partnership with EFC as the Official Mobile Phone, Virtual Reality and Wearable Technology Partner of the EFC South Africa.

“We are really excited about this partnership with Samsung, a global leader and brand,” stated EFC President Cairo Howarth. “The handsets, VR technology and Gear Fit devices are truly amazing, we have been blown away by the experience, quality and functionality and it gives fans a previously inaccessible perspective. It is literally as if you are in the ring yourself.”

The EFC partnership kicked off on 8 April at EFC 58 in Cape Town and runs to the end of the year. In order to make it more exhilarating and accessible for South Africans, soon the fights will be filmed through Samsung’s Gear 360 cameras, ensuring spectators don’t miss a thing and for those that are unable to attend the competitions will be able to use Samsung technology to make the experience as life-like as possible.

“Extreme Fighting Championship is a competitive and dynamic sport, and as a company that is always one step ahead through our innovative products, marketing and advertising campaigns, we aim to challenge everyday questions and compete with the best brands to ensure we will bring an entirely new dimension to such a large sporting event like the EFC,” says Craige Fleischer, Director of Mobile Communications at Samsung Electronics SA.
